History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it is said to have begun around Tenchō 6 (829) with the enshrinement of Yamato Takeru no Mikoto at 新山, west of Ōtsuchi; it later moved east, and in Kan'ei 6 (1629) it moved to its present site. In the time of the Nanbu clan it was counted as one of the seven Myōjin shrines of Hei District, and it is said that the daikan (local magistrate) came to present offerings at its annual festival.
