History and things to know

According to the guide of the Miyagi Prefecture Jinjachō, 鳥谷ケ森 rumbled for several days in Jōwa 2 (835) and then erupted, spouting hot water, and in the same year the court built a shrine here and enshrined the kami. It also records that the Junior Fifth Rank, Lower Grade, was granted to the Tamatsukuri Onsen kami in Jōwa 10, and in Meiji 7 the shrine was ranked as a village shrine.
