History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, Prince Shōtoku enshrined it as the guardian shrine of Shitennō-ji. In the era when kami and buddhas were worshipped together, it was managed by Shitennō-ji as the "Inui no Yashiro," which enshrined Bishamonten. After the separation of Shinto and Buddhism it took its present name, after the shrine grounds that continue to the Ōe shore. Following war damage, the main hall and worship hall were rebuilt in Shōwa 38.
