History and things to know
According to the shrine's tradition, the four great kami came to be worshipped in Matsumoto in Meiji 7, and on October 1, Meiji 12, they were enshrined at the present site as a new shrine. After receiving an imperial visit by Emperor Meiji the following year, the shrine lost its buildings in the great Matsumoto fire of Meiji 21, and the present buildings are said to have been rebuilt in Taishō 13.
