History and things to know

According to shrine tradition, it began in the Taihō era (701–703) when Takehaya Susanoo no Mikoto was received from Hiromine Sha in Harima Province. Its old records were lost to the tsunamis of the great earthquakes of the Hōei and Ansei eras, but it is said that in the Kanbun era the miyaza (shrine guild) and village officials consulted together, moved the shrine building to its present location and put the grounds in order. Within the grounds is a great camphor tree more than a thousand years old.
