History and things to know
According to the official guide, it began in Meiji 26 when Amaterasu Sumeōmikami was enshrined on high ground near Asahikawa Station as the protector of the development of the Kamikawa region. After moving twice as the town grew, it moved to Kaguraoka in Taishō 13, and the buildings of the main shrine and the tongū were built of Hokkaido ezomatsu wood. In Heisei 4, the centenary of its founding, the shrine buildings were extensively renovated.
